Museum of Contemporary Art focuses on social, cultural and environmental challenges. In 2016 the theme has been migration and now we are dedicating a study group to the topic. The study group will focus on how the current migration challenges the idea of the nation state, borders and questions of belonging. But it will also discuss whether art and culture can play a particular role in relation to communicating this conflicted field and contribute to new ways of understanding ourselves and each other.
We are looking for 10 to 12 participants that are to meet 5 times, each time for 3 hours, in the period from October to December. Each participant are to suggest something for the curriculum of the group. It can be a text, an event, a youtube video, an art work etc. The group will meet at various places in Roskilde and Copenhagen depending on the individual focus of each time.
The meetings will be facilitated by a coordinator from the Museum while anthropologist and researcher of refugees and asylum seekers everyday lives, Zachary Whyte, will moderate the discussions. Additionally, a guest lecture (e.g. a journalist, artist, theorist, activist) will be invited for each time. The curriculum, program and guest lectures are not scheduled from the beginning but will be shaped in relation to the participant’s profiles and inputs. The program will end with a seminar organised by the study group.
Meetings and seminar will be in both English and Danish. The Museum covers the coordinater, moderater, transport, guest lectures, seminar and food and beverages for each meeting.
