Finissage talk: How to use yourself through photography // Breaking. Emily + Oblong. Liv // 18.09.2022 15:00 pm

Join us this Sunday 18th from 15.00 at Fotografisk Center for the finissage of Emily Beresford exhibition ‘I Woke to My Heart Beating in My Ear’.

The finissage will include a talk between Emily and Liv Latricia Habel about self-representation through photography, moderated by Jonathan Lieb from Oblong.

Emily Louise Beresford is a Danish-American photographer based in Aarhus, Denmark. She graduated from Bard College with a BFA in photography in May, 2018.

In the exhibition, I woke to my heart beating in my ear, Emily Louise Beresford presents an intimate vision of a quiet life. With a delicate and tender eye, Emily captures light and the quotidian of her own home and private world.

Beresford is inspired by the passing of time and how it changes the subjects of her photographs. She infuses her photographs with narrative, using light as the driving force.

Liv Latricia Habel (b. 1996) is a photographer and visual artist. She studies photojournalism at the Danish School of Media and Journalism (DMJX). She has earlier attended the Copenhagen School of Film and Photography (2020) as well as the Royal Danish Academy of Design (2018).

In her work she often turns her gaze towards minority groups, who usually appear to be under- or even misrepresented in western media and art(history). In her first publication “Diasporan Daughters” she turns the camera on herself and revisits her own memories and narratives being a mixed black woman living in the intersection of various cultures and communities.

Latricia Habel lives and works in between Aarhus and Copenhagen.

Oblong is a new exhibition space for photography based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Oblong aims to become a community for sharing ideas and forging new connections. Oblongs program includes exhibitions, talks, workshops, film screenings and more. Oblong is led by Jonathan Lieb.

Come by Fotografisk Center, have a drink, listen, and be inspired! It will be the last chance to see Emily’s Breaking Exhibition.

Address: Fotografisk Center, Staldgade 16, 1699 København V.
