Sven Spieker: Un-Knowing, Getting Lost, Linking Points in Space: The New Archival Practice
Sven Spieker specializes in modern and contemporary art, with an emphasis on Central and Eastern Europe, and a special interest in issues related to documentary and knowledge production as artistic practices. His latest book focused on the archive as a crucible of European modernism (The Big Archive, MIT Press, 2008). Spieker is the founding editor of ARTMargins Print and a member of the editorial collective that runs ARTMargins Online. He teaches in the Department of Germanic, Slavic, and Semitic Studies; the Department of Art, the Department of Art and Art History, and the Comparative Literature Program at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Current projects include a Critical Anthology of Conceptual Art in Eastern Europe; a study of school and teaching in or as art (working title: “Education in the Expanded Field”), as well as a book about Kazimir Malevich in the media age.
Luis Berríos-Negrón: Manners, Parameters, and other Gay Sciences
Luis Berríos-Negrón focuses on visual arts, material economies, and mass customization all through the lens of architecture. He holds a BA in Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design and a Master of Architecture from MIT, and is Assistant Professor at the Institute for Design and Architectural Strategies of the Technische Universität Braunschweig. In 2012, he was core collaborator of Paul Ryan’s Threeing at Documenta 13 in Kassel and part of group exhibition The Future Archive curated by Ute Meta Bauer at Neuer Berliner Kunstverein in Berlin. In March and April 2013, Berríos-Negrón is a DIVA resident at Department of Arts and Cultural Studies at University of Copenhagen. During this time, he conducts the workshop Archive Building about the collective study and building of an archive. Berríos-Negrón’s residency is supported by the Danish Arts Council. He was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and lives and works in Berlin.
The lectures are part of the workshop Archive Building at University of Copenhagen and will take place at the Faculty of Humanities, Njalsgade 80, room 10.1.54 (old KUA).
