Fælles for Lolks og Rosengaards nye arbejder er, at de forholder sig til erfaringer omkring ophobning og opløsning, det flygtige og det massive. Værkerne er gennemgående lavet ud fra en procesbaseret tilgang og er fælles om at fokusere pa? materialets potentiale for transformation og pa? en bevægelse mellem repræsentation og uaflæselighed. Denne bevægelse afspejles ogsa? i udstillingens titel, hvor tegn fra forskellige alfabeter er sammenstillet til et nyt visuelt udsagn, som skal aflæses billedligt snarere end sprogligt.
Rasmus Rosengaard (f. 1979) er optaget af det monokrome maleri og de materielle og kontemplative muligheder, der ligger i arbejdet med den rene farveflade. Igennem en langsom proces, hvor grafit- eller kulstøv pa?føres lærredet, fremkommer sma? variationer og antydninger af en dybde i den ellers fortættede overflade. Sideløbende med malerierne har Rosengaard pa? det seneste arbejdet med relieffer, bygget op af dyreknogler og opiumsvalmuer.
Marie Søndergaard Lolk (f. 1981) kobler krop, blik og sprog i stoflige malerier, hvor materialer og tegn ophobes, omformes og opløses til en ny sammensmeltet masse. De nye værker til Overgaden er en blanding af malede, hældte, slebne, støbte og dryppede malerier, som tager udgangspunkt i ideen om objekter i flydende tilstand. I nogle af værkerne fungerer maleriets ramme som ‘beholder’ for materiale, ligesom der arbejdes med flere retninger eller horisonter indenfor samme billede ba?de i fysisk og visuel forstand.
Alexander Tovborg: Bocca Baciata

Med udgangspunkt i 1800-tallets kunstneriske dyrkelse af det skønne, det romantiske og det mytologiske skaber Alexander Tovborg (f. 1983) et malerisk totalunivers, der sætter fokus pa? den moderne kulturs mytedannelser.
Udstillingen er udformet som et ovalt, teatralsk rum af farverige landskaber, beboet af dinosaurer, som Tovborg har iscenesat som skabninger med menneskelige karaktertræk. Værkerne er udført i et stiliseret og næsten abstrakt formsprog som en fortælling fra en fjern fortid, der ikke bunder i videnskabelig præcision, men snarere afspejler vores egen menneskeskabte forestillingsverden.
Med reference til de naturhistoriske museer er de ti værker præsenteret som et samlet panoramisk værk, hvor den samme dinosaur repeteres igen og igen – dog med sma? variationer i farve og form fra lærred til lærred. Repetitionen og dens variation fremhæver myten som en universel figur i vores kultur, hvis betydning gentages og forskydes over tid. Ved ba?de at synliggøre eksisterende myter om det sagnomspundne dyr og lægge nye lag til peger udstillingen pa? mekanismerne bag den alment menneskelige hang til mytedannelser og -dyrkelse.

Lolk’s and Rosengaard’s new works share a common exploration of accumulation and decay – the absence and the presence of mass. The works are all created according to a process-based approach, with a common focus on the material’s potential for transformation and on a fluctuation between representation and unreadability. The exhibition title also reflects this movement, as symbols from different alphabets are juxtaposed to form a new visual statement that should be read as an image rather than an expression of language.
Rasmus Rosengaard (b. 1979) works with monochrome painting and the material and contemplative possibilities inherent in working with monochrome surfaces. A slow process of applying graphite or charcoal dust to the canvas gives rise to small variations and indications of depth in the otherwise saturated surface. Alongside these paintings, Rosengaard has recently worked with reliefs made from animal bones and opium poppies.
Marie Søndergaard Lolk (b. 1981) couples body, sight and language in textural paintings where materials and symbols are accumulated, reshaped and dissolved into a new amalgamated mass. The new works for Overgaden are a mix of painted, poured, polished, moulded and dripped paintings, all rooted in the notion of objects in a fluid state. In some works, the painting’s frame serves as a ‘container’ of materials, while others physically and visually explore multiple directions or horizons within the same work.
Alexander Tovborg: Bocca Baciata

Drawing on 17th century artistic aesthetics of the beautiful, the romantic and the mythological, Alexander Tovborg (b. 1983) crafts a picturesque universe revolving around the mythology of modern culture.
In the theatrical oval space of Alexander Tovborg’s exhibition, colourful landscapes are inhabited by dinosaurs endowed with human characteristics. The stylistic and nearly abstract works seemingly convey a story from a distant past – a story not bound by scientific precision, but rather a reflection of our human world of ideas.
With clear references to natural history museums, the ten paintings comprise a singular panoramic work in which the same dinosaur is portrayed repeatedly – with slight variations in form and colour from canvas to canvas. This repetition and variation points to the myth as a universal figure in our culture whose significance is repeated and shifts over time. By portraying existing myths about the fabled animals and adding new layers, the exhibition alludes to the mechanisms at work in the universal human penchant for myth-making and worship.
