Velkommen til fernisering på udstillingerne ‘Between the Past and the Coming’ af Ruth Campau og ‘A Staggering Territory’ af Asbjørn Skou.

I sin udstilling ‘Between the Past and the Coming’ sætter Ruth Campau fokus på skabelsesprocessens dynamikker, korrektioner og tidsligheder og gør midlertidigt status over sin mangeårige udforskning af maleriet i et udvidet felt. I to store installationer, skabt specifikt til Overgaden, omdannes rummene til farverige landskaber, der i dialog med de arkitektoniske rammer både præger og skærper vores oplevelse af, hvordan vi sanser og bevæger os i rummet. Med inddragelsen af fragmenter af tidligere eller kasserede værker, materialeforsøg og andre efterladenskaber fremkalder udstillingen desuden associationer til et laboratorium og til arbejdet i kunstnerens værksted. Hermed ansporer Campau til en refleksion over, hvordan fortidens erfaringer, chancer og undersøgelser danner grundlag for nye udtryk og muligheder i fremtiden.

Arkitektur, teknologi, perception og magt udgør centrale koordinater i Asbjørn Skous arbejde. På ‘A Staggering Territory’, som er hans første store soloudstilling i København, præsenterer han en ny installation, der rejser spørgsmål om byplanlægningens indvirkningen på individet. Værkerne spænder over collager og skulpturelle elementer og tager bl.a. afsæt i oversete eller fortrængte overgangsrum som fx parkeringskældre samt arkitekturrenderinger af urealiserede byggeprojekter, der på forskellig vis sættes i forhold til den menneskelige krop. Gennem en proces af afdækning og tilsløring af information fremstiller Skou et vaklende terræn af skalaforskydninger og simulerede rumligheder, der balancerer mellem dystopi og utopi, mellem indre og ydre og udgør en åben kartografi over, hvordan vores sociale, ideologiske og kulturelle rum formes og genforhandles i konstant udveksling med vores fysiske omgivelser.

Welcome to the opening of the exhibitions ‘Between the Past and the Coming’ by Ruth Campau and ‘A Staggering Territory’ by Asbjørn Skou.

In her exhibition ‘Between the Past and the Coming’ Ruth Campau adresses the dynamics, corrections, and temporalities of the artistic process, taking stock of her longstanding exploration of painting in the expanded field. In two large installations created specifically for Overgaden, the rooms are converted into colourful landscapes that in dialogue with the architectural framework both affect and enhance our experience of how we perceive and move through space. With the inclusion of fragments of past or discarded works, materials testing, and other debris the exhibition resembles a laboratory, calling into mind the work of the artist in her or his studio. In this way, Campau encourages reflection on how past experiences, taking chances and investigations form the basis for new expressions and opportunities in the future.

Architecture, technology, perception, and power are central coordinates in Asbjørn Skou’s work. In ‘A Staggering Territory’, which is his first major solo exhibition in Copenhagen, he presents a new installation that raises questions about how urban planning is influencing the individual. The works span collages and sculptural elements that refer to neglected or repressed transitional spaces such as parking garages and architectural renderings of unrealised building projects, which in various ways are related to the human body. Through a process of exposure and concealment of information Skou produces a staggering terrain of simulated spaces and changes of scale that balance between dystopia and utopia, between inside and outside, constituting an open cartography of how our social, ideological and cultural spaces are formed and renegotiated in constant exchange with our physical environment.
