PHOENIX – Copenhagen edition

The door squeaks when you open it. You peep inside. You hear the sound of a fireplace. The floor is covered with thick layers of ashes. Someone comes towards you and bids you inside…

PHOENIX – Copenhagen edition is a poetic, interactive performance that takes you on a journey through the forgotten buildings and beautiful scenery of Refshaleøen. The journey opens up your senses and gives you the opportunity to explore yourself and places in the harbor, which is usually unavailable for visitors.

You will go through the experience on your own – guided by performers and an interactive sound system that works through GPS. Installations in ship wrecks and forgotten buildings, sound, interactive technology, lyrics and performers leads you to unexplored places and invites you into the cracks of what you remember, what you fear, and what you dream of.

PHOENIX – Copenhagen edition is a co-production between Wunderland, Københavns Internationale Teater and TEATERØEN.

The performance is a part of the Metropolis Festival 2015 program.

SENSING THE CITY: “INFORMATION IS BEAUTIFUL”

Lab2_640x204px

How does big data visualize the value of cultural interaction? Can we measure the transformational effects of social and cultural behavior?

SENSING THE CITY BY DANISH DESIGN CENTRE, IDEMOLAB / DELTA AND DOME OF VISIONS
#smartcity #bigdata #sensors #virtualreality #interfacedesign #interaction #digitalspace #wearables #data #datavisualization #digitalhumanities

THE LAB
During the course of the lab, participants will work to collect, interpret and visualize data to finally produce a physical, digital, electronic or bodily data-visualisation that tells a story about the Dome of Visions and the people who use it.

CASE: DOME OF VISIONS
“Digital humanities – Exploring the link between digital technology and humanities”

The Dome of Visions project is about putting action into words and following through on new ideas in construction and urban thinking and planning. The dome is intended specially to inspire and to challenge regarding the solutions for the climate challenges to come. The Dome of Visions, a temporary, cross-disciplinary cultural venue in Copenhagen, has compiled climate data that registers temperature, humidity and Co2 in the building. This data, can help us analyze the atmospheric reactions to events and physical activities at the venue.

HACKING THE CITY: “URBAN BUZZ“

Lab1_640x204px

How can new technologies ‘hack’ into a given place and improve that place? Analysing behavior data and challenging the way, we use the city by creating temporary meeting points – virtual or physical.

HACKING THE CITY BY ALEXANDRA INSTITUTE, IFHP, URBEGO & COPENHAGEN SOLUTIONS LAB
#smartcity #bigdata #nudging #play #makerculture #behavioranalysis #tourism #intelligentareas #build #popup #hyperlocalinformation

THE LAB
In Hacking the City Lab we will focus on three main areas of Vester Voldgade – The City Hall Square, Stormgade and the square in front of Den Classenske Legatskole. During the course of the lab, participants will work to collect, interpret and visualize data to finally create the concept of a digital-physic installation that will encourage tourists to actively be a part of the urban environment of Vester Voldgade.

CASE: VESTER VOLDGADE
A conversion of Vester Voldgade in 2013 has reduced traffic, enhanced the boulevard atmosphere, adding rows of trees, new open spaces and wide promenades, and giving pedestrians priority on what was once a very busy stretch. The object of converting Vester Voldgade was to create a pleasant promenade, which would be attractive to residents, visitors and tourists, creating an urban buzz with space for play, meeting points, shops and culture. However the conversion has not attracted a great number of new pedestrians to the area. Within the next couple of years new cultural institutions such as Bryghusgrunden and the City Museum will be part of the area now called The Cultural District. How do we prepare the area for its new role as cultural district? Can we divert tourist flow from the busy area around The City Hall Square even before the cultural institutions have moved into the area?

SPROUT TALENT WEEK – OPEN TALKS: NUDGE THE CITY

rsz_nudging-workshop_2

The task in this workshop is to come up with ideas based on basic nudging knowledge and try to design solutions for a range of concrete situations.

How do you as an architect, designer or planner guide people in the city to act in the certain way? Nobody has a simple answer for that. The task in this workshop is to come up with ideas based on basic nudging knowledge and try to design solutions for a range of concrete situations. We use the Cool Down in the afternoon to test our ideas and the not-knowing visitors for the event will let us know how it works by their behavior.

We hope you will join both the work shop and the Cool Down.
