Invitation to presentation/talk at The Factory for Art and Design on Friday, December 10th at 10am in room 42 (1st floor)
We have the pleasure of inviting you to attend a presentation given by curator, writer and editor Valentinas Klimasauskas (LT), artist and writer Andjeas Ejiksson (SE), and curator, writer and editor Virginija Januškevi?i?t? (LT).
The group is in Copenhagen during December as participants in the CRR residency programme, which focuses on research and collaboration between professionals within the field of visual art. Valentinas Klimasauksas, Andjeas Ejiksson, and Virginija Januškevi?i?t? are working on the upcoming issue of the journal “The Baltic Notebooks of Anthony Blunt” ( www.blunt.cc ). The name refers to the famous British spy, Sir Anthony Blunt, who was part of the Cambridge Five – a group of high ranking members of British society recruited by the Soviet Union during and after WW2.
As described by the group: “The Baltic Notebooks of Anthony Blunt” was founded in 2009. The date of its first public appearance coincided with the disclosure of the autobiographical writings of Anthony Blunt, an art historian and a spy, in the British Library. The name of Sir Anthony Blunt is appropriated in regards to the importance of the idea of agency in contemporary arts, as well as the idea of a latent impact. It also plays with the assumption that if Sir Anthony Blunt was alive he would be the first person to keep his eye on what is happening in the art scene of the Baltics; the Fourth Man of the Cambridge Five, in a sense he was one of the most prominent art historians to work with the Baltic States during the Soviet Rule, however remotely and outside of the artistic disciplines.
“The Baltic Notebooks…” was started as a slow journal that facilitates exchange of information and ideas between contemporary art practitioners in the Baltics. It is also an artistic project, an exercise of collective writing and shifting initiative. It will continue to mediate, generate and suggest events in the art scene(s), without drawing a strict line along the artistic disciplines or the region’s geographical borders – the Baltic dimension of the journal is rather referential than limiting. It is looking for ways to continue in a way the activity that would mirror, host and initiate the contemporary art processes that cannot be (re)presented in other (online) media”.
