3pm Talk by Theodor Barth: The Poetics of the Desk – a post-bureaucratic invention of the desk, in the wake of a transition from a flyer-archive to contemporary archaeology

The lecture takes the audience on a journey through 8 art-project contexts, and highlights two aspects of the development of an archive of flyers: a) the development of a grid for the flyers in these contexts [documentary function]; b) the indexing of the flyer in the context of their use [archival function]. The research question on how the role of design/accident relates to readability, finds its antecedents in both J. Derrida and W. Benjamin, and relates to the emergence of a post-bureaucratic work-form, guided by G. Agamben’s notion of the contemporary.
